Bidding farewell to a collaborative, courageous and capable leader

Alliance Leadership Team members bade farewell to a collaborative, courageous and capable colleague last month, via a virtual meeting.

Members marked Kate Lopez’s final meeting with reflections on her leadership across key areas of the alliance, including the health of older persons workstream, the community services SLA and as the community nursing perspective to the leadership team for more than eight years.

Don Elder, Independent Chair, highlighted Kate’s longstanding involvement and the capability she had demonstrated in a range of leadership roles. “You’ve provided a strategic view, collaborative approach, focus on the impact on the people served, and been willing to make courageous comment.”

Kim Sinclair-Morris offered huge thanks for all the contributions made by Kate, including in the Health of Older People and Community Services spaces, and her appreciation of Kate’s refreshing and open perspective.

Angus Chambers, PHO Urban Leadership perspective said: “I’ve enjoyed your positive attitude and representation well beyond your interest group.”

Which was echoed by Michael McIlhone, ALT’s Primary Care Nursing perspective as he noted his long working relationship with Kate and their mutual support of each other. “We’ve learnt a lot from each other along the way, and your contributions have always come from both your heart and head.”

Wendy Dallas-Katoa, ALT’s Māori perspective, congratulated Kate on her achievements and leadership, and the due diligence she applied in undertaking the role, noting that it was pleasing that Kate would continue working within the health system.

Kate thanked ALT members for their leadership and support as she reflected on her involvement since 2013 and earlier engagement in a community provider role and through the Vision 2020 conversations with the alliance.

“I’ve always been impressed with the leaders around the table, the clinical leadership, and the valuable co-design workshops. It has been a rewarding experience and I want to thank you all for the work you’ve done and will continue to do in the future.”
