Looking to locals to guide Hurunui health care into the future

Last month members of the Hurunui Health Services Development Group went on a road trip to kōrero (speak) with the community about plans to set up a consumer and health provider hauora (health and wellbeing) advisory group.

Canterbury Clinical Network Senior Facilitator Koral Fitzgerald, says the enthusiasm, passion and commitment from the members of the community to support the wellbeing of their region's people was energising and valued.

“We received 17 nominations from a variety of people across the region with different backgrounds and perspectives who were interested in joining the group,” says Koral.

“We are excited that so many are keen to share in the next journey and be a voice in making health services in the Hurunui the best they can be.”

The purpose of the group is to provide leadership for ongoing improvements and monitoring of the region’s access to health services. Once the group is established, HHSDG will hand over the baton, having completed the work within their mandate.

Members of the HHSDG supported all the nominations and the first meeting of the new group is currently being planned.
