Farewell to Sue Nightingale and Sue Fowlie

The Canterbury Clinical Network (CCN) Alliance Leadership Team (ALT) said goodbye to two members at the October meeting. Chair for ALT, Dr Don Elder acknowledged and thanked both Sue Nightingale and Sue Fowlie for their significant contributions to CCN and wished them all the best for the future.

Sue Nightingale has provided a Secondary/ Tertiary Care Perspective to ALT since September 2016. She leaves her role at Canterbury DHB in December and will take up a new role on the Gold Cost in Australia in the New Year.

Kim Sinclair-Morris, Executive Director of CCN, highlighted Sue’s leadership, openness and connectivity with the system, and her genuine and upfront nature.

Simon Church, ALT Deputy Chair, highlighted Sue’s leadership, the value of her dialogue with senior clinicians, and her generosity of time and spirit.

Sue Nightingale responded, saying it had been a privilege.

“ALT has helped me, in my Chief Medical Officer role, connect with the wider system. I encourage you to continue to focus on relationships as a key strength in making the health system work,” says Sue.

Sue Fowlie has provided Rural Primary Care and General Practice perspectives to ALT since March 2019. She will continue to be active in supporting Ashburton and rural initiatives.

Kim recognised the considerable discretionary effort made by Sue Fowlie with the complexities being addressed by the Ashburton Service Level Alliance (SLA) and the value of her rural perspective.

“You’ve given a considerable amount of discretionary time to help things progress in the Ashburton space, and been an absolute champion for Ashburton and rural health services,” says Kim.
