Standing Orders Development Group

The Standing Orders Development Project is driving a coordinated, 'system wide' approach to the development of Standing Orders in Canterbury and the West Coast.

Managed by the Canterbury West Coast Standing Orders Development Group (SODG), the aim of the project is to develop a single electronic Standing Orders package, utilising HealthPathways, that is flexible enough to be used across rural and urban primary care and meets legislative requirements.

The project is in response to concern registered by the Canterbury Clinical Network from some of its Alliance Partners regarding the ad hoc approach to the development of Standing Orders (SO) across Canterbury and the West Coast.

Acknowledging the initial work completed by the Canterbury Initiative and the West Coast DHB and in response to a renewed call from the Rural Canterbury PHO, the Canterbury Clinical Network established the Canterbury and West Coast (rural and urban) Standing Orders Development Group (SODG) in October 2014.

The group's membership - made up of GPs, nurses and a pharmacist - has been endorsed by the PHO Chief Executives, the Director of Nursing Group and the PHO Clinical Governance Group Chairs. The project is expected to be completed by December 2015. An annual review process will occur on completion.
