One of the achievements of the Canterbury health system post-earthquake of 2011 was the new COPD model of care, which led to significant and sustained reduction in hospital admission and bed-day occupancy. 

Research has just been published describing the factors contributing to the need for change and the methods by which change – and positive patient outcomes – was achieved.
