Tēnā koutou,
CCN is thrilled to confirm that Canterbury’s new Stop Smoking Service will commence 1 October. It links with the work of the Population Group under the Flexible Funding Pool SLA.
The MoH is supporting Canterbury to use a transition period (October to 31 December 2016) to progress the development of our comprehensive Canterbury Stop Smoking Service. We are fortunate to have Hayley Cooper (nee Shearer) available to manage the implementation of our service by 1 October and the transition arrangements through to 31 December, until a Stop Smoking Services Hub manager is appointed.
Next steps
A steering group will be established to provide guidance through the service implementation. It is anticipated that this group will draw on the partners involved in the RFP and access a breadth of perspectives, particularly with respect to priority populations.
We will provide regular updates to the wider sector. In the interim please continue to support Canterbury’s current specialist cessation providers; Aukati Kai Paipa (based at Community & Public Health), Pacific Trust Canterbury and Te Whaea Manawa (Innov8smokefree) are continuing to offer specialist smoking cessation services. Please continue to refer to these specialist services as appropriate.
Thank you to all who have contributed to date. We look forward to drawing on your collective expertise to help in the development of Canterbury’s Specialist Stop Smoking Service.
If you have any queries please contact Hayley by phone (03) 337 8971 or email hayley.cooper@cdhb.health.nz.
Thank you,
Jane Cartwright
